The interior waiting area is brightly colored and features a lot to see, including an oversized Buzz Lightyear animatronic figurine. Once you make it to the front of the line, you will board a vehicle similar to those found at Spaceship Earth, the Haunted Mansion, and other similar Omnimover/dark rides that move slowly on a conveyer-belt-like contraption. The Story – Created to immerse riders into Toy Story’s fictional world of Buzz Lightyear, the Space Ranger Spin begins by calling guests to join the Space Rangers in defeating the evil Emperor Zurg. Zurg has been busy stealing batteries from toys to power his own space ship weapon. New ranger recruits must track down Zurg and bring him to justice in a XP-37 Star Ship equipped with laser. A version of Buzz Lightyear could be found at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort from 2005 until 2017. It was then re-themed to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle! Before this change, Buzz Lightyear was the only attraction other than Dumbo the Flying Elephant to be found at all six Disney Resorts across the world.

This attraction is based on the space-ranger character of Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. The marginal story line has you and Buzz Lightyear trying to save the universe from the evil Emperor Zurg. The indoor ride is interactive to the extent that you can spin your car and shoot simulated 'laser cannons' at Zurg and his minions.

Touring Tips
- Note that the FASTPASS program is currently suspended at Disneyland.
Each car is equipped with two laser cannons and a scorekeeping display. Each score-keeping display is independent, so you can compete with your riding partner. A joystick allows you to spin the car to line up the various targets. Each time you pull the trigger, you’ll release a red laser beam that you can see hitting or missing the target. Most folks’ first ride is occupied with learning how to use the equipment (fire off individual shots as opposed to keeping the trigger depressed) and figuring out how the targets work. The next ride (as with certain potato chips, one is not enough), you’ll surprise yourself by how much better you do. Unofficial Guide readers are unanimous in their praise of Buzz Lightyear. Buzz Lightyear’s FastPasses are dispensed from the two kiosks at the far end of Star Tours’ distribution area.
